Holy Heartburn BatBoy!

I now understand all those looks of agony on the faces of the people in the Tums and Rolaids commercials. A couple weeks ago I had my first experience with heartburn or acid indigestion or whatever you want to call this evil thing that seems to enjoy taking over my stomach at the most inopportune times. Yes, a few weeks ago at about 1:15am I woke up sweating and writhing in pain from some of the most gut wrenching stomach cramps I have ever experienced. The only time I had ever felt that bad was when I contracted amoebic dysentery in a third world country which shall remain nameless. However, this experience was a little bit worse. On top of the terrible stomach cramps it felt as though I had swallowed a lit match and it was not going to be extinguished. I will save you all the gory details, but let's just say I resembled the girl in the movie The Exorcist. My sweet husband slept through a full hour of my agony before I woke him up in a panic. I chewed some Tums and anxiously awaited some relief while my very sleepy husband tried to calm me down. Eventually relief came. Fast forward to yesterday. I ate an extremely bland diet all day. Cereal, bagels, refried beans, tortillas, a banana, water, water, water... you get the picture. However, my body was NOT happy. I chewed some Tums, no relief. I took a walk, no relief. I took a Pepcid AC, no relief. Finally, around 8:30pm Daniel suggested we go buy some Mylanta. We did. I took four tablespoons and guess what it worked! From all the books I have read they say that acid indigestion and heartburn only get worse as pregnancy progresses. So, meet my new best friend...

I hear Zantac works well for a little while too. Sorry, I am not much help. I think I had heartburn once. Don't hate me too much! :)

Glo, okay you know that miracle product I kept beating everyone over the head about? They also make a product for indigestion. The brand name is Mommy's Bliss and you can find it in a nicer supermarket or a health store. Ames swears by thei gripe water, so maybe it could help along with your mylanta regimen.

I'm so sorry you are in pain - but I hope you can get it under control!
